Garden building advice

Are wooden sheds waterproof?

Our wooden garden sheds are designed to be weather-resistant and, when installed correctly, should keep out normal rain and weather in typical UK conditions.

Why don’t we call timber sheds fully waterproof?

Timber is a natural material and can expand or contract slightly as temperature and moisture levels change. Long-term weather performance also depends on correct assembly, the base, roof covering and ongoing maintenance.

How can I keep my shed weather-resistant?

Install the shed on a firm, level and well-drained base. Make sure the roof covering is fitted correctly and check it periodically. Apply a suitable timber treatment unless the building is supplied pressure treated, and check joints, doors and roof edges as part of normal maintenance.

What about ventilation?

Reasonable airflow inside the shed helps reduce condensation. This is especially important where damp garden equipment or other moisture-producing items are stored.

Are pressure-treated sheds lower maintenance?

Pressure treatment helps protect timber against rot and decay and can reduce the amount of ongoing preservative treatment required. A waterproofing or decorative finish may still be recommended depending on the product and the appearance you want.
